Update: Police Charge One With DWI in Horton Avenue Accident

Police have identified both drivers.

Update: 7:58 p.m.: Riverhead Town police have identified the two men injured in an accident at the intersection of Horton and Reeves Avenue and charged one with driving while intoxicated.

According to Riverhead Town police, Samuel McCoy, 63, of Riverhead was driving a 2008 Dodge 4500 series truck northbound on Horton Avenue when he was allegedly struck by a 2009 Honda Accord operated by Robert McCoy, 50, of Happauge; the men are not related.

Robert McCoy was arrested at the scene and charged with DWI. Samuel McCoy, who was transported to Peconic Bay Medical Center by the Riverhead Town Volunteer Ambulance Corp., was treated and released.

Robert McCoy was transported by a Suffolk County police helicopter for treatment of serious, but non-life-threatening, injuries, police said.

Police request any witnesses to the scene contact the Riverhead Town police department's detective division.

Original story: Two were injured in an accident that occurred between a truck and a sedan at approximately 3:07 p.m. on Monday at the intersection of Horton Avenue and Reeves Avenue in Riverhead, police say.

According to Riverhead Town police, Samuel e vehicle "T-boned" the other; there was a single person in each car.

The more seriously injured driver was airlifted to Stony Brook University Medical Center, police said; the other driver was taken to Peconic Bay Medical Center for treatment. None of the injuries is believed to be life-threatening, police say.
