Updated: Car Passenger in Critical Condition After Saturday Accident

Truck was reportedly parked on shoulder of Route 24.

A man and woman were airlifted to Stony Brook University Medical Center on Saturday morning after they reportedly drove into a box truck parked on the shoulder of Route 24 in Flanders.

Southampton Police released the names of the man and woman on Monday. According to police, John Mackey, 55, of Flanders, was driving the car. Lorraine McLoughlin, 62, also of Flanders, was reportedly in the passenger's seat.

Representatives of Stony Brook University Medical Center said on Monday that Mackey remains in stable condition, while McLoughlin is in critical condition. No further information was available.

According to Southampton police, the couple were driving a 2000 Chevrolet southbound on Route 24 and "left the travel portion of the roadway," hitting the parked truck. 

The reports state the the operator of the box truck was inside a local deli at the time of the accident.

Suffolk County Police Aviation was called to transport the man and woman, and Flanders Fire Department and Flanders Northampton Volunteer Ambulance Corps were called to assist on the scene of the accident. 

Route 24 was closed for three hours as a result of the accident.
