Cops: Woman Busted For Bank Robbery

Police recovered the proceeds of the robbery, authorities said.

A Ridge woman has been arrested and charged with robbing a bank, police said Saturday night.

According to Suffolk County police, the robbery occurred at Astoria Federal Savings Bank, located at 1880 Route 25 in Ridge, at 11:15 a.m. Saturday.

Police said Louwanda Jackson entered the bank, demanded cash, and threatened violence. The teller complied with the demand and gave Jackson cash from the drawer, police said; Jackson then fled the bank on foot.

Seventh Precinct Police Officer Kevin Gleason responded to the robbery and apprehended the suspect in the parking lot, police said; proceeds from the robbery were recovered.

Pattern Crime Unit detectives charged Jackson, 46, of Williamsburg Court, Ridge, with robbery in the third degree, a felony.

She was being held at the Fourth Precinct Saturday night and is scheduled for arraignment at First District Court in Central Islip on Sunday.
