Police: 'Suspicious Package' Not so Suspicious After All

A call for a suspicious package was put in to Manorville Post Office Wednesday morning, though responders said it was a fire extinguisher.

A sucpicious package called in at the Manorville Post Office was determined to be not so suspicious after all on Wednesday morning, after Suffolk County Police determined that powder that was released from a package belonged to a fire extinguisher.

Around 7:20 a.m., SCPD received a call, and according to Sgt. Frank Leotta, an employee was handling the package and put it down when "powder released from the box."

Suffolk Police and Emergency Services, and Manorville Fire Department, EMS, and Community Ambulance all responded to the post office, located just south of The Maples, at 525 Eastport Manor Road.

Leotta said an x-ray taken by Suffolk Emergency Services of the package confirmed that it was a fire extinguisher and there was no hazard. Responders were still on the scene as of 8:35 a.m., however they were expected to clean up and leave soon.
