Police Report: Burglary, Driving While Intoxicated

A list of recent crime activity as reported by the Riverhead Police Department.

Gregory Scherer, 22, of Shoreham, was arrested on Oct. 19 on charges of burglary in the third degree and criminal possession of stolen property in the fifth degree. According to reports, Keith and David Fink of Fink's Farm reported finding Scherer, who they said stole a cach register valued at $150 from their farm stand on Oct. 16. Keith Fink reportedly said he had asked around town and found Scherer at Calverton Court in Wading River and recovered the cash register prior to police arrival. Scherer was arrested, transported to police headquarters for processing and held for arraignment.

Angela Fox-Hayward, a.k.a. Angela Ayala, 43, of Flanders, was arrested on Oct. 20 on charges of false personation and offering a false instrument in the second degree resulting from a prior petit larceny arrest. Reports state Fox-Hayward was arrested on a civilian complaint on Sept. 24  of petit larceny/shoplifting from Wal-Mart. Upon processing, Fox-Haywayrd allegedly provided a false name, date of birth, and address which was ascertained on Oct. 20 when she attended Riverhead Town Justice Court in reference to the charge. She was arrested, processed, and held for arraignment.

Hector Vargas, 22, of Southampton, was arrested on Oct. 22 on aggravated D.W.I. charges. According to reports, Vargas was attempting to make a left turn driging westbound on E Main Street onto Peconic Avenue and nearly struck a Riverhead Police Department car. Vargas, driving a Honda Accord, reportedly continued south on Peconic Avenue and crossed over the double yellow center line marking. He was stopped and arrested for the charges, transported to headquarters, processed and held for morning arraignment.

Hector Rolando Pelaez Dubon, 19, of Riverhead, was arrested on Oct. 24 on petit larceny charges. Reports state Pelaez Dubon removed bicycle chain libe and a cell phone case, valued at $25, from Wal-Mart without paying or permission to do so. He was transported to headquarters for processing and released on $100 bail and a desk appearance ticket.

Joseph Mancuso, 37, of Riverhead, was arrested on Oct. 24 on petit larceny charges. An employee at Off 5th Sake Fifth Avenue reportedly witnessed Mancuso steal two bottles of cologne valued at $113 and flee to the Sony Outlet Store. Upon police arrival the employee reported the suspect also stole a bottle of cologne valued at $48.99 on Sept. 28 and signed for both charges. Mancuso was arrested on both charges, processed and held for arraignment.

None of the defendants have been convicted of a crime, but were arrested for the charges listed above. They are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
