UPDATE: Driver of Overturned Truck On LIE Identified

Accident is located near Exit 71 on the Long Island Expressway, police say.

Suffolk County Police responded Wednesday morning to an overturned tractor trailer with at least one individual trapped inside the vehicle on the Long Island Expressway at Exit 71.

According to police, a truck driven by Patchogue resident Ricardo Jiminez, 59, was making a left turn onto northbound Route 24 when the accident occurred at approximately 11:08 a.m.

The accident shut down the thoroughfare in both directions for hours; as of approximately 2:45 p.m., Route 24 was still closed.

The truck, owned by a Yaphank company, DBOW II Incorporated, was carrying recycled concrete aggregate.

Jiminez was taken to Peconic Bay Medical Center with minor, non-life-threatening injuries.

No tickets were issued initally; a safety check is ongoing.

Not saying that speed was involved in this accident, but I had a fuel oil truck pass me on the expressway in the vicinity of exit 70, traveling over 70 mph. We all need to slow down in life, even if it's just a little bit.
