Police: Riverhead Man Stole Car, Fled Police, Crashed Car

Riverhead man reportedly stole car from Valero gas station near Riverside traffic circle.

A Riverhead man was arrested early Saturday morning after he allegedly stole a vehicle, fled police, and crashed the vehicle during his attempted escape.

Southampton Police reported that Patrick Earnest Gray, 30, was arrested on charges of grand larceny in the fourth degree, a felony; criminal possession of stolen property in the fourth degree, a felony; and unlawfully fleeing from police, a misdemeanor. 

Police said that Gray was found to be operating a vehicle that was reported stolen one hour before he was found in it, when it was reported stolen from the Valero gas station at the Riverside traffic circle.

According to police, Gray fled police on County Road 94 toward the Long Island Expressway, lost control of the vehicle, and struck an embankment and a road sign near the intersection of CR 94 and Pinehurst Boulevard.

Gray was arrested, transported to police headquarters for processing and held for arraignment.
