Police: Riverhead Man Stole Car, Traded it for Cash

According to Southampton Police, Robert Singleton stole a 1992 Volvo and traded it for $471.

Southampton Police said 51-year-old James Singleton of Riverhead was arrested on two felony charges recently after he allegedly stole someone's car and traded it for $471.

According to police, an East Quogue resident reported a car theft on Nov. 30, 2011, reporting that a black tow truck came and took a 1992 Volvo - which was inoperable and had no plates - from the resident's driveway. Following an investigation, police located the car at Gershow Recycling Center in Medford.

Records allegedly indicated that Singleton had traded the car and received cash for it. He was arrested on felony charges of filing a false instrument, and felony charges of criminal possession of stolen property.
