Police: Taxi Driver Robbed at Gunpoint

In other police news, a Riverside man hit in the head with a bat during attempted robbery.

•A Riverside man reported that on June 19 while walking in Riverside he was approached by two men who looked to be about 30 years old, one white and one black, who attempted to steal his wallet.  When he resisted, the white man struck him in the head with a baseball bat and both men fled, according to the incident report. Southampton police and state troopers searched the area, but did not find the suspects.

• An Islip Terrace taxi driver told Southampton Town police that on June 17 that he was held up with a gun, by a black male, approximately 5 feet and 8 inches tall, 200 pounds and in his 30s.  

According to an incident report, the taxi driver picked up a fare at Stony Brook University Medical Center who requested to be dropped off on Flanders Road. When the man was being dropped off, instead of paying, he pulled a small handgun from his waist and demanded money. The man then fled on foot.
