Police: Woman Airlifted After Friday Evening Crash

Police say a woman lost control of her car on Northville Turnpike, and was subsequently airlifted to Stony Brook University Medical Center.

A woman was airlifted to Stony Brook University Medical Center Friday evening after she lost control of her car and ran into a telephone pole support wire.

According to police, Mary Hattorff, 48, was driving south on the Northville Turnpike when she lost control of her car, drove into a  - which was knocked to the ground after a fire was  and continued to hit the wire.

Police said she was treated at the scene by members of the Rivehread Volunteer Ambulance Corps. A Suffolk County Police helicopter met the RVAC at the Riverhead High School, where she was transported to Stony Brook.

Hattorf was the only person in the car and the only injury, police said.
