Fire Department Puts Out Compactor Fire at Route 58 Michaels
The fire started sometime before 6:15, according to the fire department. Its cause is still unknown.
The Riverhead Fire Department extinguished a trash compactor fire behind early this morning.
Fire officials said the blaze began in the compactor behind the Route 58 store sometime before 6:15 a.m. The fire was under control by 7:00, with firefighters pulling garbage out of the compactor and spraying the interior to cool embers in the dumpster.
The cause of the fire is unknown at this time, fire officials said.
