Riverhead Firefighter in Stable Condition After Thursday Night Fire

Cause of fire may be considered electrical in nature.

A Riverhead firefighter remains hospitalized and in stable condition after sustaining an injury Thursday night at a on Raynor Avenue. 

According to Riverhead Fire Chief Nick Luparella, a 34-year veteran of the fire department is being evaluated at Stony Brook University Medical Center. However he said the information he could release on the individual's situation - the person's name, particulars of the injury - was limited due to HIPAA (Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act) laws.

Around 10:10 on Thursday night, a fire alarm was tripped at the Raynor Avenue business. Four area fire departments - Jamesport, Wading River, Riverhead, and Flanders - were called as a result.

Luparella said on Friday that he had not yet received a full report from Fire Marshal Scott Davonski on the cause of the fire. However he said, "he believes (the cause) was electrical."
