Riverhead Man Charged for Attempted Armed Robbery

The following information was supplied by the Southampton Town Police Department. A criminal charge is only an accusation and does not indicate guilt.

A 21-year-old Riverhead man was arrested Friday for pointing a gun at a Flanders man earlier this month.

According to police, Aaron Hartmann approached a car driven by a Flanders man on Evergreen Road in the hamlet and pointed a handgun at him on Aug. 13 at around 4:30 p.m. Hartmann demanded the Flanders man give him his car stereo. No one was injured in the incident, and Hartmann fled the scene.

Hartmann was arrested at 1:36 a.m. at headquarters in Hampton Bays after an investigation. He was charged with second-degree attempted robbery and third-degree criminal possession of a weapon, both felonies, and second-degree misdemeanor and fourth-degree criminal possession of a weapon, both misdemeanors.
