Town Police Log: Riverhead Man Charged With Stealing Car Batteries

The following information was supplied by the Southampton Town Police Department. A criminal charge is only an accusation and does not indicate guilt.

Criminal Possession of Stolen Property

Southampton police arrested a 40-year-old Riverhead man on Nov. 10 after he was allegedly found with $375 worth of stolen car batteries from a Quiogue junk yard, according to a police report of the incident.

At around 11 p.m., police received a call about a suspicious car in a wooded area off Deborah Drive in Quiogue, a subdivision drive located near J&V Auto Salvage. After investigating, police said they saw Ihor Maksymchuk near the vehicle. Officers discovered 25 car batteries in his car, according to a police report. Police said they determined the batteries were stolen from a small pickup truck located on the northeastern corner of the junk yard.
