Riverhead P.D., Neighbor Save Woman from Second-Story Fire

Woman in early 20s rescued in Old Farm Road fire Wednesday afternoon.

Two Riverhead policemen and a neighbor rescued a woman from a two-story fire on Old Farm Road on Wednesday afternoon.

Riverhead Fire Chief Nick Luparella said the fire started around 12:50 p.m. outside the home at 300 Old Farm Road. Two Riverhead police officers and a neighbor rescued the woman, reportedly in her early 20s, from the home, Luparella said.

The victim was treated by the Riverhead Volunteer Ambulance Corps at the scene, and was not hurt, Luparella said. He added the woman was not treated for smoke inhalation, as she was not sent to the hospital.

The woman, who did not want to give her name and was visibly shaken after the incident, said she did not live at the home.

The Riverhead and Flanders Fire Departments responded to the fire. Luparella said the fire was mostly contained outside the house, but added the fire did spread to the kitchen and there were "smoke conditions" inside the home.
