Police: Riverhead Woman Stole Money from Home for Disabled

A state audit in September originally showed cash was missing

The former manager of a Northampton group home for developmentally disabled people was charged with petit larceny for allegedly stealing money from her wards, Southampton Town Police said.

Police said Nicole Leggon, 28, of Riverhead pocketed about $400 in cash from the residents of the Aid to the Developmentally Disabled home in Northampton between June 1 and Sept. 1. She was the house manager at the time, but is now unemployed, according to her arrest report.

Leggon was arrested and charged with petit larceny, a misdemeanor, on Friday at 4:44 p.m. at police headquarters in Hampton Bays. The residents of the home were reimbursed for the losses, police said.

A state audit originally showed that $350 cash was missing, according to an earlier police report about the missing money filed in early September by the program director for the home.

In an initial police report, the director said Leggon quit the home on the day of the audit that found the money missing, police said.
