Riverhead Woman Killed in Babylon Car Accident

Police said the woman lost control of her car on the icy roads, colliding with another stopped vehicle

A Riverhead woman was killed early Sunday morning when her car apparently hit a patch of ice caused by this weekend's unusual winter storm, spun out of control and collided with another disabled vehicle, Suffolk County Police said.

Susan Galligan, 54, of Riverhead, was driving westbound on Sunrise Highway near Hubbard's Path at about 6:15 a.m when she lost control of her car and slammed into the back of a 2006 Toyota Tacoma that had crashed into a guard rail after hitting a patch of ice. The truck's driver, Adalid Trejo, 37, of Brentwood, had gotten out of his vehicle to inspect the damage when Galligan's car collided with his, police said.

Galligan was pronounced dead at the scene by an Office of the Medical Examiner physician, according to a police report. The driver of the other car and his two passengers, Joaquin Trejo, 46, and Franklin Trejo-Monge, 23, of Brentwood, were hurt in the crash and were transported to Good Samaritan Hospital where they were treated for non-life-threatening injuries, police said.
