Sheriffs Confirm Details on Alleged Tanger Robbery, Car Chase, Fatal Crash

Three individuals, two from Brooklyn and one from Troy, charged with criminal possession of stolen property in the third degree with more charges to come.

Just after noon on Tuesday, the Suffolk County Sheriff's Office released the names of the three suspects and confirmed the details in Monday's alleged larceny and high speed police chase which started at Tanger and ended in a fatal car crash in West Sayville.

The three suspects charged on Monday are Cordell Tucker, 24, of Brooklyn; Rashawn Naquan Smith, 26, of Brooklyn; and Essence Smith, 18, of Troy. They were all charged with criminal possession of stolen property in the third degree and Smith was additionally charged with unlawful possession of marijuana. 

According to the Sheriff's Office, additional charges will follow pending a review with the Suffolk County District Attorney's Office.

The name of the woman killed after the three individuals reportedly struck her vehicle was Gail Sacher, 62, of Holbrook.

It was that three individuals stole over $4,000 worth of merchandise from a store at on Monday afternoon and led Suffolk County Sheriffs on a chase westbound on the Long Island Expressway.

Riverhead Town Police put out a notice about the suspects' car - a 2000 Lincoln Town Car - and the sheriffs picked up. After a registration check took place, according to the Suffolk County Sheriffs' release, Tucker drove away as the sheriffs were walking toward the vehicle on foot.

Tucker proceeded to exit the L.I.E. at Route 112, according to sheriffs, subsequently traveling onto the Sunrise Highway and exiting at Lincoln Avenue, eventually striking a 2011 Subaru driven by Sacher's husband. Both were transported to Southside Hospital where the woman was pronounced dead.

An earlier version of this story reported that the drivers exited the Long Island Expressway at Lincoln Avenue. There is no Lincoln Avenue exit off the L.I.E.
