Six Arrested in Drug Investigation on Monday Following Friday Sweep

Monday arrests confirmed as part of drug investigation; at least six defendants have Riverhead addresses according to court documents.

After on a string of conspiracy charges, six more were locked up on Monday. All six were charged at least with conspiracy in the second degree, and all six are part of an East End Drug Task Force Investigation, according to police reports.

All 14 of the arrests came soon before Suffolk County District Attorney Thomas Spota announced on Tuesday the , 16 of whom reside on Long Island. Spota reported that over one million bags of heroin related to the ring were sold in Suffolk County.

Court records show that among the 14 Riverhead arrests so far, at least six of the defendants have Riverhead addresses. Individuals are also reported to live in Patchogue, Wethampton, and Flanders. However home addresses for all 14 defendants was not yet available as of Wednesday.

Spota's spokesman, Robert Clifford, said on Monday that, "This is an ongoing investigation and when it is complete we will provide more information." He was unavailable for comment on Tuesday.

Conspiracy in the second degree, a class B felony, is described as follows by the New York State Penal Code: "A person is guilty of conspiracy in the second degree when, with intent that conduct constituting a class A felony be performed, he agrees with one or more persons to engage in or cause the performance of such conduct."

According to police reports, the following individuals were arrested on Monday: 

  • Grant Carle - conspiracy, 2nd degree
  • Dewayne Butler - conspiracy, 2nd degree
  • Kyle W. Harris - conspiracy, 2nd degree
  • John Gayles - conspiracy, 2nd degree; conspiracy, 4th degree, criminal possession of a forged instrument, 1st degree; criminal possession of a controlled substance, 7th degree; criminal use of drug paraphernalia, 2nd degree
  • Mack Butler (aka Abdur Sabur) - conspiracy, 2nd degree
  • Allen Brown, Jr. - conspiracy, 2nd degree
