Southampton Cops: Duo Caught by Police After Fleeing in Riverside

Police said two men ran from police after drinking in public in Riverside.

Arrest reports from the Southampton Town Police Department for west of the Shinnecock Cancel between April 21 and April 28:

• Jose Benitez-Granados, 23, of Flanders, was arrested on April 24 and charged with DWI.

Police said he was stopped for a traffic violation while driving on Flanders Road around 11:10 p.m. and was reportedly found to be intoxicated. He was transported to headquarters, where police said he submitted to a test and had a blood alcohol level of 0.15 percent, nearly two times the legal limit.

He was also given citations for reportedly failing to give way to the right of a vehicle, moving from his lane unsafely and driving as an unlicensed driver.

• Nary Chacon, 26, of Riverside, and Luis Canel, 27, of Riverhead were each arrested on a misdemeanor resisting arrest charge on April 28 around 4:45 p.m.

According to police, a uniformed officer noticed Chacon and Canel drinking a 12-pack of Budweisers  on Pine Street in Riverside. When approached by police, they reportedly dropped their beer and fled on foot. Police reports state the officer said, “Police, stop,” but they continued to run.

After a brief pursuit, police reported that Chacon was stopped and arrested, and Canel was later found behind Marta’s Deli. In addition to resisting arrest, they were given a citation for an open container.
