Southampton Man Reportedly Flees Riverhead Cops, Busted on Cocaine Charges

Suspect charged with one felony and several misdemeanors.

State police arrested a Southampton man early Saturday night after he allegedly fled Riverhead police with drugs on him.

According to a state police report, Riverhead cops asked for assistance locating a dark colored Lexus after it fled local police. State troopers allegedly came upon the vehicle in a driveway on Fanning Boulevard in Riverhead, off of Middle Road.

Police reported that upon approaching the vehicle, and asking the person inside to show his hands, he kept reaching down between the car seats. Carl Morgan, 44, was soon taken into custody, and a search of the vehicle allegedly yielded a bag of cocaine.

Morgan was arrested on charges of criminal possession of a controlled substance in the fifth degree (a class D felony), resisting arrest, unlawfully fleeing a police officer, and traffic violations.
