Southampton Police Log: Woman Held at Knifepoint in Riverside

Assault

• An attempted second-degree assault charge, a class-D felony, was leveled at Flanders resident Benjamin Griffin, 57, May 12 at 12:38 a.m. after police said he attempted to force a female victim into the woods in Riverside with a knife and attempted to assault her with the weapon. Griffin, said police, was apprehended shortly after the incident and taken into custody. He was additionally charged with third-degree criminal possession of a weapon, a class-D felony.
DWI

• Luis Sopla, 30, of East Hampton, was charged with driving while intoxicated, a misdemeanor, after being stopped on Flanders Road and Spinney Road in Flanders May 13 at 12:04 a.m. Police said Sopla was pulled over after he was observed backing out of a traffic lane unsafely and smelled of an alcoholic beverage. The vehicle was impounded and Sopla was taken into custody for DWI.
Criminal Mischief
• On May 11, Bryce Danowski, 18, of Flanders, was charged with third-degree criminal mischief, a class-E felony, after police reported that on West Montauk Highway at 10:46 p.m. He was transported to police headquarters in Hampton Bays and processed for arraignment the following day.
