Southampton Police: Man Circumvented Interlock Device, Drove Drunk

A Bellport man was arrested on two felony charges after police said he was caught driving drunk Friday night.

Southampton Police arrested a Flanders man on Wednesday on felony grand larceny charges after they said he was responsible for stealing jewelry from a Flanders home. According to police, Tijay Claiborne, 20, was familiar with and had permission to be in the Donald Drive home when he stole an undisclosed amount of jewelry from it. He was arrested on charges of grand larceny in the fourth degree, processed at police headquarters in Hampton Bays, released on his own recognizance, and given a later court date.

Christopher Nevins, 28, of Bellport, was arrested two felony charges on Friday after Southampton Police said he was driving drunk after circumventing his interlock device.

Police said Nevins was observed driving on Route 24 in Riverside around 7 p.m., without any headlights. According to police, he was stopped and found to be drunk.

Nevins was charged with DWI, first and second-degree aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle, circumventing an interlock device, and was also given traffic violations.

He was processed and held for morning arraignment.
