Town Police Log: Flanders Man Tries to Choke His Little Sister

The following information was supplied by the Southampton Town Police Department. A criminal charge is only an accusation and does not indicate guilt.

Southampton Town Police arrest reports for the week of August 1 through August 8:

Obstruction of Breath

Lawrence Nash, 20, of Flanders was arrested Thursday, August 4 at 10:40 a.m. at the corner of East Street and Flanders Road in Flanders and charged with criminal obstruction of breath and endangering the welfare of a child, both misdemeanors. Police said Nash got into a fight with his younger brother and sister, smacking him and choking her. Police did not have the ages of Nash’s siblings.

Possession of a Controlled Substance

Robert Langhorne, 45, of Riverside was arrested Thursday, August 4 at 2:08 a.m. at the corner of Pine Street and Vail Avenue in Riverside and charged with seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, a misdemeanor. Police were called to a fight near the corner of Pine Street and Vail Avenue and saw Langhorne looking suspicious. He then admitted he had crack cocaine in his pocket, which police discovered was wrapped in a dollar bill, they said.

DWI

Thomas Spencer, 30, of Selden was arrested Sunday at 3:11 a.m. on Center Drive South in Riverside and charged with DWI, a misdemeanor. Police said Spencer was stopped for losing control of his vehicle.

David Avelar, 23, of Flanders was arrested Friday at 12:39 a.m. at the corner of Flanders Road and Ludlam Avenue in Riverside and charged with DWI, a misdemeanor. Police said they stopped Avelar for driving out of lane when they discovered he was intoxicated.

Antonio Catalan, 27, of Flanders was arrested Saturday at 12:16 a.m. on Moon Avenue in Flanders and charged with DWI, a misdemeanor. Police said Catalan hit a mailbox on Royal Avenue and drove away. After talking to a witness, police found him on Moon Avenue and discovered he was intoxicated. 

Douglas Masterson, 48, of Saint Petersburgh, Florida was arrested Friday at 1:52 a.m. at the corner of Peconic Avenue and Flanders Road in Riverside and charged with DWI, a misdemeanor. Police said Masterson was stopped for driving without a seatbelt.

Nivardo Garnica, 26, of Hampton Bays was arrested Saturday at 3:15 a.m. at the corner of County Road 104 and County Road 105 in Flanders and charged with DWI, a misdemeanor. Police said they pulled Garnica over when they saw he was driving off the road.

Mardoqueo Tezen, 23, of Riverhead was arrested Saturday at 1:26 a.m. on Old Quogue Road in Riverside and charged with DWI, a misdemeanor, and first-degree aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle, a felony. Police said Tezen was stopped for a traffic violation when police discovered he was intoxicated.
