Stop DWI Checkpoint Nets 3 Arrests in Riverhead

Police also issue numerous summonses.

Riverhead Town Police arrested three individuals on Saturday night after setting up two Stop-DWI sobriety checkpoints on Roanoake Avenue, north of Northville Turnpike and on Peconic Avenue.

Riverhead resident S. Martinez-Velasquez, 47, was arrested and charged with driving while intoxicated, and Gavin K. Glimm, 44, of Hampton Bays was also arrested and charged with DWI.

Police also Virgil Horsley, Jr., 25 of Riverhead and charged him with driving while ability impaired by drugs.

Numerous vehicle and traffic summonses were also issued during checkpoint operations, including charges of an unlicensed operator, uninspected vehicle, aggravated unlicensed operation and child restraint.

The checkpoint operations were conducted between 9:30 p.m. and 3:30 a.m.

Riverhead Town police plan future checkpoints during the summer months and will continue the Stop-DWI initiative throughout the year.
