Town Police Log: Copper Pipes Stolen in Separate Incidents

The following information was supplied by the Riverhead Town Police Department. A criminal charge is only an accusation and does not indicate guilt.

Burglary

Police said an unknown person or persons broke into a renovation project on Kings Drive in Riverhead and stole more than 500 feet of copper pipe from the basement of the building, valued at more than $2,500.

A contractor at the site called police at 9 a.m. on Oct. 20 and told police that sometime overnight someone took the copper pipes and various construction equipment worth about $1,700, according to a police report.

Police said they did not find a suspect after checking the neighborhood, and are still investigating the incident.

Burglary

The owner of a vacant house told police that sometime between Sept. 25 and Oct. 19, an unknown person or persons entered the home and took $15,000 worth of copper piping, as well as a wood burning stove, according to a police report.

The man reported finding the rear door to the building damaged from the outside when he arrived at the home on Oct. 19, police said. The missing wood-burning stove was valued at about $2,500, according to a police report.

A next-door neighbor told police that she did not see any suspicious activity. Police said they are still investigating the incident.

Criminal Mischief

An unknown person damaged windows at Halloween City sometime between 8 p.m. on Oct. 23 and 9 a.m. on Oct. 24, police said. Polices estimated the repairs would cost $400. Police said they are still investigating.

Larceny

A Coram man told police that an unknown person entered his unlocked car on 15th Street in Riverhead and stole a bottle of prescription medication. Police did not immediately release what medicine was missing, according to a report. Police are still investigating.
