Town Police Log: Man Assaulted at Valero Gas Station

The following information was supplied by the Southampton Town Police Department. A criminal charge is only an accusation and does not indicate guilt.

Southampton Town Police department reports:

DWI

Shannon Hofsiss, 25, of Riverhead, was arrested Dec. 16 at 3:36 a.m. in Westhampton and charged with first-degree aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle, a felony, and second-degree aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle, and DWI, a misdemeanor. Officers said they saw Hofsiss drive around two sets of barricades and signs signaling that the road was closed on when they pulled her over and discovered she appeared intoxicated. Police also discovered that her license had been suspended 16 times previously, according to an arrest report.

Assault

An unemployed Central Islip man was hit in the head by an unknown object in the parking lot of the Valero gas station in Riverside Dec. 16, according to a police incident report.

The man told police that someone hit him in the head with an unknown solid black object at around 9:06 p.m. He told police he didn’t fall down, but saw the man he believes hit him run up Peconic Avenue toward Riverhead Town. The man was wearing a black winter coat and black hat, according to the incident report.

The Flanders-Northampton Volunteer Ambulance transported the Central Islip man to Peconic Bay Medical Center for a cut on his head.

Police said they will use gas station surveillance cameras in their investigation.

Harassment

A 52-year-old woman from Riverside told police that the 40-year-old woman she allowed to sleep in her shed on Vail Avenue the night of Dec. 16 attacked her at 8:45 a.m. the next morning. When the Riverside woman went into her backyard, the woman punched her, knocking her to the ground and causing a small cut, according to an incident report. Police said they told the 40-year-old woman to stay away from the property.

Obstructing Governmental Administration

Rashawn Lamb, 26, of Riverside, was arrested Dec. 14 at 4:43 p.m. on Flanders Road in Flanders and charged with second-degree obstructing governmental administration, a misdemeanor. Officers said they were called to the scene of a fight at the Flanders Deli and saw Lamb, who interfered in the investigation. He ran away from officers, who were questioning him, according to Lamb’s arrest report.
