Town Police Log: Possession of Marijuana, Stolen Handguns

Editor's Note: The following information was supplied by the Riverhead Town Police Department. A criminal charge is only an accusation and does not indicate guilt.

Unlawful Possession of Marijuana:

Robert Young, 23, of Aquebogue was arrested on Sept 20 and charged with unlawful possession of marijuana. Police said a Riverhead officer was on a routine patrol at around 1 a.m. when the officer noticed two cars parked illegally on Columbus Avenue, with two people in the second parked car. During an interview with Young, the man in the driver's seat, the officer smelled marijuana, according to a police report. Young reportedly showed police a grinder, a device used to crush marijuana seeds for smoking, and told the officer he had been smoking earlier in the day. The officer then found a package of cigarettes containing marijuana, police said. Young was arrested and released with a future court date. The other person in the car was cited for illegally parking his vehicle and allowed to leave, since police said they discovered he had no contraband.
