Babylon Supervisor Bellone, Potential County Exec Candidate, Stops in Riverhead

Long Island Democrat Steve Bellone brings his embarking on "listening tour" to the Riverhead Library Monday afternoon at 3:45 p.m.

Babylon Supervisor Steve Bellone, a Democrat, will kick off his "listening tour" Monday with one stop in Riverhead, as he weighs the decision to run for county executive in the fall against incumbent Steve Levy. 

Bellone is scheduled to be at the Riverhead Free Library at 3:45 p.m. to  speak with residents about the hot-button issue of homeless sex offenders. 

Last week, the which will allow the county Department of Social Services to move forward with a private company to allow emergency housing throughout the county for sex offenders. Currently nearly 30 are housed in trailers in Riverside and Westhampton.

According to a campaign spokesman, Bellone implemented a system in Babylon which places GIS tracking devices on all sex offenders to ensure residency restrictions are being met.

As of this past January, Bellone, the supervisor of Babylon since 2001, has just over $1 million in his campaign war chest, compared to Levy's $4.1 million. Levy earned both major party nominations in his last run for county executive in 2007, earning more than 96 percent of the vote.

Bellone will also be stopping in Farmingdale, Central Islip and East Patchogue before making his way to Riverhead, ending his day at a Suffolk County Democratic Committee dinner in Holbrook.
