Bellone to Announce County Exec Candidacy at End of Month

Babylon Supervisor first Democrat to step forward.

After conducting a listening tour across Suffolk County over the past month, Babylon Supervisor Steve Bellone will be announcing his candidacy for county executive later this month. 

Bellone's spokesman said that this past weekend, invitations to the announcement were mailed out, and Monday evening invite recipients also received automated recordings from Suffolk County Democratic Chair Richard Schaffer.

The announcement will take place on Wednesday, April 27.

"He's been hearing out concerns throughout the county on the listening tour," said Rick Fromberg, Bellone's spokesman. "He's received a great response. And he's going to continue to pursue that, meeting with leaders and residents up until April 27."

Bellone so far has been the only Democrat to step forward to attempt to earn the county executive nomination.

The  - nearly a half dozen candidates have expressed interest - following the announcement by incumbent County Executive Steve Levy .
