Immigration Forum Draws Sparse Crowd

The information forum focused on the new immigration policy for undocumented youth.

A forum on Friday night meant to inform locals about a new immigration policy that gives undocumented youths relief from deportation was sparsely attended, with some two dozen attendees and no more than a handful of individuals that the policy could assist.

The thin crowd at the forum, organized by U.S. Rep. Tim Bishop, could have reflected a fear among undocumented residents to come forward.

"We recognize how difficult it is for people to come," Bishop said. The congressman told those in attendance to spread the word. So far, he said, his Patchogue staff has helped approximately 50, route: {:controller=>"articles", :action=>"show", :id=>"scant-number-of-undocumented-immigrants-seeking-bishop-s-help-so-far"} --> who have come for assistance in filing the appropriate paperwork to apply for
