Bishop: Visa Program Fix Essential for East End

Congressman touches on critical issue for East End agriculture. Where do you stand?

Rep. Tim Bishop visited the Riverhead Chamber of Commerce on Thursday to discuss issues ranging from the national debt limit to Social Security reform. But the congressman turned his attention to a more local issue when he laid out reasons he believes the visa system for immigrants needs to be fixed. Bishop touted ideas such as creating agriculture or seasonal visas that would allow immigrants to find work in farms and vineyards, pay taxes and be able to go back home to their families in the off-season.

Given how much immigrant labor is employed in East East agriculture, do you agree with Bishop?
