Riverhead Slammed With Over Almosat 10 Inches of Snow

Riverhead kids enjoyed a snow day on Wednesday.

Riverhead Town Supervisor Sean Walter has announced a delayed, 10 a.m. opening of all town facilities on Wednesday, after Tuesday's heavy snowfall.

The townwide state of emergency will be lifted at 8 a.m.

All schools will be closed in Riverhead on Wednesday.

Police urge motorists to drive slowly and with extreme caution. With snowfall accumulation in Riverhead just under 10 inches, roads remain snow-covered, especially on north-south roads, where drifting can occur. Temperatures are expected to remain in the teens, with lower wind chills expected.

Highway crews are out working, officials said. Residents are asked to move their cars from the street to facilitate road cleanup.

If possible, residents are asked to stay home and stay safe. In case of an emergency, dial 0 or call Riverhead police at 631-727-4500.

All recreation programs are cancelled through noon on Wednesday; there will be no recycling pickup on Wedneday.
