Do You Think Riverhead Should Be in the 2nd Assembly District?

We're curious what you think about Riverhead and Southold being split at the state Assembly level.

Based on a proposal by New York State legislators, an Assembly redistricting - if adopted - , cutting off Riverhead from Southold and extending the second A.D. further west. Southold is proposed to be paired with the Hamptons.

Assemblyman Dan Losquadro, R-Shoreham, stated this week that he thinks it's a bad move, since issues facing the North and South Forks are so disparate that two separate representatives would be needed.

Since the first A.D. currently has a population nearing 150,000 - the largest in the state, Losquadro said - a cut the number of people residing in it was necessary.

What do you think? Do you think Southold should have been paired with the Hamptons, or would keeping Riverhead and Southold together and cutting the district from the west make more sense?

The redistricting plan will be subject to public hearings and amendments and the final adopted plan will take affect in time for the 2012 election.
