First Congressional District, New York

Your guide to info and news on this national race.

The 2012 Congressional race in New York's First District is not only a rematch, but a rematch of the nation's last contested election of 2010.

After weeks of manual verification of electronic voting machines in 2010, in early December Republican challenger Randy Altschuler, R-St. James, contested the race to Rep. Tim Bishop, D-Southampton, who has served New York's First C.D. since 2003.

In 2012, the close race has brought in, and continues to bring in, funding from all over the country to attempt to tip the scales in favor of either candidate.

Altschuler gained the Independence Party nomination this time around in a district that will see slight alterations on its western border due to redistricting.

DISTRICT: East Hampton, Southampton, Riverhead, Southold, Shelter Island, Brookhaven, Smithtown (Nissequogue, Head-of-the-Harbor, St. James, Nesconset, San Remo, Parts of Commack and Hauppauge).
