Following a brush fire in April that spread over 1,100 acres in Manorville and Ridge and required the aid of over 100 fire departments across Long Island, officials are working toward identifying water sources in the relatively arid area and updating an emergency management plan, according to a Newsday article.
The Central Pine Barrens Commission - comprised of officials at town, county and state levels - oversees the preserved area. According to the article, officials will be taking inventory of any and all water sources - including pools, which were used as a water source during the April fire - as well as train firefighters more to respond in the remote part of Long Island.
