For a taste of all the best produce Suffolk County has to offer, Yaphank is the place to be on Friday.
Suffolk County Executive Steve Bellone plans to host the second annual "Celebrate Grown on Long Island Day," where Long Island farmers will gather for the largest farmers' market on Long Island -- and fun for the entire family.
The event will feature wagon rides, tours, locally produced food and wine, Long Island's largest farmers' market, family activities, and farm animals.
In addition, top Long Island chefs will face off in a local seafood "throw-down."
The event is aimed at giving residents a chance to meet local farmers and to celebrate the bounty of fresh produce that's grown on Long Island.
The event will be held on Friday from 11 a.m. till 4 p.m. at the Suffolk County Faarm at 350 Yaphank Avenue in Yaphank. Bellone is expected to be joined by farmers, the Long Island Farm Bureau, Cornell Cooperative Extension, the Long Island Wine Council, the Peconic Land Trust, Island Harvest, J Kings. Food Service, Harbor View Foods, Inc, and Farm Credit East.
According to Bellone, Suffolk County is the single most productive agricultural county in New York State.
