Assemblyman Dan Losquadro is helping to feed the area's hungry this holiday season.
Losquadro has launched a holiday food drive and has asked residents of Riverhead, Southold and Brookhaven Towns to donate non-perishable food items to help those in need.
Many local parish outreach centers, Losquadro said, are in dire need of replenishment after Hurricane Sandy, to ensure families on their lists have food for the coming holidays.
“As a resident and elected official, it always makes me very proud to see how we respond when people from our communities are in need,” Losquadro said. “Since more residents have relied on our local food pantries than usual after Hurricane Sandy, it is important that we help restock these supplies. However, we also need to be aware that there are several food pantries and parish outreach centers in our communities that assist people all year long. It is important for residents to know where these locations are within their communities in order to help spread the word and provide these organizations with more consistent donations throughout the year.”
The food drive will take place at Losquadro’s district office in Riverhead from Dec. 3 through Dec. 21, Monday through Friday, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. The office is located at 400 West Main Street, Suite 201, in Riverhead. For further information or directions, call (631) 727-0204.
