Parcel of Land, Former Barber Shop, Could be Yours

Suffolk County Division of Real Property Acquisition and Management is holding an auction in October, including one parcel in Riverhead and another in Riverside.

A plot of land in Riverhead for $100? Sure, it might be landlocked and about a tenth of an acre - but it could be yours. As could a former beauty and barber shop in Riverside - though for a higher price.

The Suffolk County Division of Real Property Acquisition and Management will hold an auction on 130 parcels throughout the county on Oct. 23 at the H. Lee Dennisson Building in Hauppauge. Nearly two dozen residential improved properties as well as a handful of commercial structures will be auctioned off.

Ninety-minute open houses will be held at select locations which have been improved beforehand, including the parcel in Riverside, which appears to be zoned under Southampton Town's village business zone. The open house at 3 Old Quogue Rd. will take place on Oct. 9 from 10 to 11:30 a.m.

The unimproved lot in Riverhead, located near the end of Oak Drive, measures 50 feet by 99 feet. Bids on the property start at $100, and will increase in $25 increments until bids reach $499, at which increments would step up - assuming they get that high.

Bids on the structure that formerly housed Doris Beauty and Barber Shop start at $5,000. In that price range, bids step up at least $200 per bid.
