Primary Results Are In: DeVito, Giglio and Dunleavy Win The Race

The Democratic committee's pick to run for Town Supervisor took the race by a wide margin over her opponent.

The results are in: After the votes were tallied on Primary Day in Riverhead, two incumbents and the Democratic Committee's original choice for town supervisor candidate took the lead.

Riverhead Town Democratic Committee pick Angela DeVito won by a landslide over her challenger, Riverhead Board of Education President Ann Cotten-DeGrasse. DeVito will face off with GOP incumbent Town Supervisor in the November race.

According to the Suffolk County Board of Elections website, the unofficial final tally was 501 to 229, with DeVito securing 68 percent of the vote. There were two write-in votes.

"We have overcome this first campaign obstacle quite handily. And tomorrow the work continues," DeVito said.

Republican candidates and incumbents Jodi Giglio and John Dunleavy won handily over opponent Anthony Coates; Giglio took the lead with 912 votes, Dunleavy followed with 878, and Coates received 484. There were four write-in votes.

"The taxpayers have spoken and recognize my commitment of serving the taxpayers by cutting spending, saving taxpayers money by finding more efficient ways to do things, and creating high-paying jobs at Enterprise Park at Calverton," Giglio said.

Meanwhile, Bill Bianchi and Giglio won the Independence lines, with Bianchi receiving 65 votes, Giglio, 68, and Dunleavy, 37, with five write in votes.
