Riverhead Celebrates Incorporation of Town

Wednesday marked the 221st anniversary of Riverhead's independence from Southold.

Riverhead celebrated a big day on Wednesday -- the 221st anniversary since the town was officially incorporated.

And the day it officially gained its independence from Southold Town.

Riverhead Town Supervisor Sean Walter and the town board gathered to celebrate the act of the New York State Legislature dividing the town of Southold and establishing Riverhead Town, originally known as "River Head," on March 13, 1792.
