Southampton Closes on Preserving 20 Acres in Riverside

Property on corner of Routes 105 and 24 recently purchased for $170,000.

Southampton Town recently closed on 20 acres near the Flanders/Riverside border, just west of Route 105, using $175,000 in community preservation funds.

The parcel - located at the southwest corner at the intersection of Routes 24 and 105 - was one of nearly 9,000 targeted in the town's Community Preservation Project Plan, completed in 2005. The plan targets 41 parcels totaling roughly 115 acres slated for open space in the Peconic River area.

The Town Board unanimously voted to purchase the property last November, and just recently closed on the property.

Recently, the town board has been debating whether or not to bond $125 million, as the town's chair of is CPF Advisory Committee has stated
