Supervisor Warns Residents to Stay Indoors During Frigid Cold Snap

Residents without heat are urged to stay with a relative or friend or call the police.

Although the blizzard is over, temperatures continue to hover in the single digits in Riverhead — and Town Supervisor Sean Walter urged residents to remain indoors, if possible.

Wind chills made it feel as though temps had fallen to below zero overnight, and Saturday, although sunny, will bring no relief, he said.

With many roads still snow covered, travel is not recommended, Walter said.

Residents are asked to be aware of frostbite and hypothermia. Residents without heat are urged to go to a relative or friends's house or call Riverhead police.

In case of emergency, call Riverhead police at 631-727-4500 or dial 911.

"Stay home, stay warm, and as always, stay informed and stay safe," he said.
