Town Green Lights Next Step Toward Riverside's Rebirth

A new day could be dawning in Riverside.

At this week's Southampton town board meeting, a resolution was passed unanimously to award Renaissance Downtowns a master plan developer contract for the Riverside Revitalization Action Plan.

Back in August, Southampton Town Councilwoman Christine Scalera introduced a resolution, co-sponsored by Supervisor Anna Throne–Holst, for a Request for Qualifications from real estate development organizations to help guide revitalization efforts in the area.

The town received three proposals in total.

“The RFQ process inclusive of the proposal for a master developer has been something I’ve always thought was an important tool for this community, and the award of the master developer contract is an exciting and important first step in an action plan aimed at Riverside’s revitalization. This starts to bring this community’s long awaited vision for the area to fruition,” said Scalera.

She thanked the civic leaders, committees and residents who have worked for new life in the blighted Riverside area.

“The selection of a master developer represents one of the primary and crucial goals set by the Riverside Economic Development Committee — which the group has diligently worked toward laying the groundwork for — and now represents an exciting mark of progress in making the revitalization vision, a reality,” said Throne-Holst.

Next, a town board work session on Dec. 5 will include a presentation by Renaissance Downtowns on their proposal for the Riverside Revitalization Action Plan.

What do you think of this step toward revitalization in Riverside? What would you like to see happen in the area?
