Historic Grumman Planes To Get Facelift Friday

Volunteers will clean up Grumman Memorial Park on Friday.

Riverhead Town will team up  with the Cradle of Aviation Museum on Friday to clean up a piece of history.  

Work will begin Friday at 11 a.m. on refurbishing the F-14 and A-6 aircraft on loan to the Town of Riverhead from the United States Navy.

The event will take place at Grumman Memorial Park,  located on Route 25 near the Route 25A intersection on the former Grumman Aerospace Flight Test Facility, or Naval Weapons Industrial Reserve Plant, in Calverton.

Grumman Memorial Park is a volunteer initiative organized to pay tribute to the advances in aviation and aerospace that took place on Long Island at the former Grumman facility, where Enterprise Park at Calverton is now sited.

Riverhead will provide the paint and other materials needed by CAM volunteers, including ladders, a power washer, bucket truck and staff support and coordination for the refurbishment.
