South Jamesport residents have a new park to call their own.
The Riverhead Town board will host a ribbon-cutting ceremony on Wednesday at 10:15 a.m. for community members and town employees to officially dedicate Miamogue Point Park in South Jamesport.
"This new park will be forever preserved and will provide open space, a new playground and valuable beach access," Riverhead Town Supervisor Sean Walter said.
The 2.31 acre Miamogue Point parcel was acquired and developed by the town by utilizing Community Preservation Fund monies and a $350,000 grant from the State Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation.
“Staff in the departments of the Community Development Agency, engineering and recreation worked hard to build an environmentally friendly park that the residents of the Town of Riverhead can enjoy," Walter said.
