Town to Save $68K With New Energy-Efficient Sewer Station

LIPA and the Town of Riverhead announced the new pumping station on Friday

The Town of Riverhead and the Long Island Power Authority will install a new energy-efficient pumping station at the town's Sewer District, saving the town an estimated $68,000, according to a statment from LIPA.

The new $3.5 million pumping station was installed near Howell Avenue, uses efficient pumps, motors, and variable drives to cut down on energy costs by more than 370,000 kilowatt hours per year, the statement said. The town also received $46,225 in incentives and rebates for their participation in the Commercial Efficiency component of LIPA’s Efficiency Long Island Program.

“We in Riverhead are pleased to be a leader in the effort to make our region greener and more efficient," said Riverhead Town Supervisor Sean M. Walter. "Together we will bring the public the most responsible and cost conscience district we can."

LIPA Chief Operating Officer Michael D. Hervey praised the town for "for taking the lead to move toward a more energy efficient and greener way of doing business.”
