Unofficial Results Show Dem Committee Candidates Sweep Challengers

Early results show the former supervisor beating newcomer Greg Fischer by nearly 400 votes.

Former Town Supervisor Phil Cardinale has secured a decisive victory over challenger Greg Fischer in the Democratic primary race for the party's town supervisor nomination, according to early polling results released by Cardinale's camp.

The unofficial results show Cardinale far ahead of Fischer by a tally of 80.2 to 19.8 percent, with Cardinale almost 400 votes ahead of his opponent.

The results for town council are closer, with Matthew Van Glad and Marlando Williams advancing to be nominated by the party for town council. Van Glad finished first of the three according to the reports, with 35.3 percent of the vote; Williams received 34.9 percent while Fischer's running mate Ruth Pollack got the remaining 29.6 percent.

These numbers are not verified by the Suffolk County Board of Elections, who said they did not have official results as of 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The board's electronic voting system

Vinny Villella, chairman of the Democratic Committee, warned that the results released from Cardinale were not entirely accurate since additional votes have since been counted.

"The numbers Phil [Cardinale] has are from earlier this afternoon from before the absentee ballots were in," Villella said. "He still won big, though."
