Troy Trent, a Riverhead man and former custodian at the Pulaski Street School pleaded guilty on Monday to conspiracy in the fourth degree, a class E felony, after he was arrested in February of 2011 following an East End Drug Task Force investigation. Three days later, pleaded guilty this week in the cocaine trafficking case.

East and West Main Streets reopened following a gas leak on Tuesday morning. A section of Main Street in downtown Riverhead was evacuated after a gas service pipe was damaged by a National Grid contractor.

A group of town board members, landowners, and civic group representatives met at Town Hall on Thursday morning to discuss an ongoing Route 25A corridor study and update to the town's Master Plan. Executive Director Dick Amper dubbed the meeting a "peace summit," but, while one of the meeting's goals was to compare different ideas for planning and developing the hamlet, the discussion also illustrated continued contrasting views between parties.

The arrest of convicted sex offender Donald Brown, who charged with allegedly loitering outside Riverhead High School and offering an 11-year-old money to be his friend, reignited concerns about a homeless sex offender trailer still located outside the county jail in Riverside, even though Brown had been living at the Budget Host Inn.
