Weeping Willow Park Slated for June Opening

Guard rails, picnic tables to be installed at new West Main Street park.

Weeping Willow Park, the former site of the Weeping Willow Motel that has been converted into a canoe launch on West Main Street, should be open by the end of June as the town works on finishing touches.

According to Supervisor Sean Walter's Chief of Staff Tara McLaughlin, wooden guard rails needed to be installed after vandals drove up on the grass, tearing up the new sod in April.

In addition, drainage work needs to be completed in the eight-car stone lot, and the town is waiting to pour concrete slabs on which they can place picnic tables.

The site was purchased by the town in 2008 for $1.25 million, and last year renovated at a coast of nearly $80,000.

Will you launch a canoe from the park?
